How to Hold Your Breath in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is part of the new wave of Ghost Recon games that introduces RPG mechanics.

Using skill points that you unlock as you earn experience in the game, players can purchase skills to equip their Ghost with, and these help make them a more efficient and lethal soldier.

However, they’re not all totally obvious as soon as you get them. In this guide we’re going to cover how to hold your breath in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and help you master it as a skill.

Not a Skill

The first thing that you need to know about holding your breath, is that you can do it as soon as you start Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

It’s not a skill that needs unlocking, like the ones I alluded to above. Instead, it’s an intrinsic skill that the game does a really terrible job of introducing you to.

So even if you’ve just started the game, you can use this skill to your advantage, simply by following these instructions.

First, you need to learn how to hold your aiming trigger. This should be the trigger on the left hand side of your controller, regardless of platform.

Of course on PC this is going to be different, so it’s just the aim button there. If you hold this button all the way down, it will zoom in with whatever sights or scope you have equipped on your current weapon.

Instead of holding the button down all the way, you need to hold it halfway down. This will take you into your scope in a slightly different way, without the aiming reticule displaying at first. This indicates that you’re holding your breath.

As long as you do this every time you want to hold your breath, your Ghost should do just that. As to why you’d want to do this, there are several advantages. We’ve actually found a great video that shows the breath holding in action.

Why Should I Hold my Breath in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint?

Whilst your Ghost is holding their breath while aiming, you’ll benefit from a few advantages over standard aiming.

The first thing to note is that you’ll scope in a little close to the enemies. That’s how it looks at least, and this is because your Ghost is far more concentrated on the targets within the scope.

Since you can only hold your breath for a certain amount of time, it’s a fair advantage that’s balanced out by you needing to move off and breathe after a short while.

When holding your breath you will gain better stability and handling over a weapon. This will make you a little more accurate, and allow you to hit targets that might otherwise have been too far away.

That extra stability will allow you to work out bullet drop distances and wind direction a lot faster, and you’ll just generally be able to line your shot up so that it’s perfect.

The best reason to hold your breath though, is to stay hidden. If a base of enemies suddenly realises that there’s a Ghost out there trying to hunt them all down and kill them, they’ll immediately go on the alert.

This makes infiltrating the base so much harder, and also makes everything descend into chaos, which isn’t what anyone wants.

By holding your breath, you can sit comfortably on a rock that’s ages away from a base, and slowly yet methodically pick off every single enemy you can see.

It’s worth noting that holding your breath is also extremely useful against drone enemies. Each drone has specific weak points, and if you can’t hit them, then you’re gong to take a few bullets.

By aiming carefully, you can hit the weak points. This will deal some serious damage before you ever get close to the drone.

Sharpshooter

One final note about how to hold your breath in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. It blends well with the Sharpshooter class.

This is the class that you’d go for if you want to stay hidden and shoot enemies from a distance, it’s also good for getting into meaty firefights though.

This is the class that I personally prefer to run with, and using it whilst also holding your breath provides the most accurate aiming that I think is possible in the game.

That’s everything there is to know about holding your breath in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. If there’s something important that you think we missed, please do let us know in the comments.
